Non-NFT mechanism

The non-NFT mechanism, initially proposed in March 2022, has been enthusiastically discussed by the community. Opinions are mixed regarding this mechanism. So here is an in-depth analysis.

  1. What is the non-NFT mechanism?

It is a game mode operated in parallel with the existing NFT system. Players in the non-NFT system need not to connect a crypto wallet to be able to play. Like the traditional gaming ecosystem a player just needs to create an account, after which he or she can start playing. Non-NFT Players will be able to experience exploring the world of Faraland including both PVP and PVE. They will be able to do battles with NFT players.

At the onset, players are in command of basic heroes and can proceed to pursue a journey in PvE to boost strength for their heroes, a process typical in “Free to Play” games.

2. Why is developing the non-NFT mechanism significant?

With the current regulations, hardly any blockchain-based game titles have been released on Appstore or CHplay. So in order for Faraland to be published on Appstore, we have to develop an upgrade that includes this non-NFT mechanism. This also makes updating the game for a new version more convenient for users.

This is an important development in expanding the game to a wider range of players, especially traditional ones (the target we aim to direct to the blockchain space). The non-NFT version will pave the way for easier adoption of non blockchain gamers. Traditional gamers will experience the same game content, and gradually will make them realize the advantages that NFTs brings about.

3. How does the non-NFT mechanism work?

For the non-NFT mechanism to operate, in-game payments must be integrated. Soul Stones can then be considered as a special in-game currency (similar to “Gem” in some other traditional games). Players can use Soul Stones to upgrade characters, buy special items, participate in in-game gacha and more. When playing in this mode, players can still boost power for characters in PvE, collect materials and upgrade items for their characters, even join PvP mode and combat alongside other NFT players. However, a notable difference is that the rewards that non-NFT players receive can’t be exchanged or traded, these can only be used for their in-game account.

Non-NFT players will not be completely “Free to Play”, they still need to buy items, invest in equipment through in-app purchases to strengthen their heroes. Another difference is that their heroes and equipment cannot be converted into NFT and are relatively weaker than NFT players.

Profits from in-app purchases will be used for buy-back programs for both $FARA and Soul Stones as a way to improve the “Play-To-Earn” economy of the Faraland metaverse. We plan to use 75% of the profits for acquisitions and rewards programs, while the remaining 25% will be saved and stored in contingency funds.

Another notable difference is that non-NFT heroes are non-transferable. As players continue to level up, they will realize the need to transform from non-NFT players to NFT players. So suppose that you invest $1000 through in-app purchases and play the game, you won’t be able to sell items or heroes in the market like those who invest $1000 in NFT. NFT heroes and the equipment are also stronger, in addition to the advantages of earning Soul Stones. As for non-NFT gamers, Soul Stones are what they can only invest money in but cannot convert to NFT for trading. This constitutes the value of our NFT heroes.

4. How to compete with traditional games on Store?

We know that on App Stores, a lot of new game titles are launched every day and the competition is very fierce. However, we have conducted thorough research on the “Turn-based RPG” genre which Faraland is building on. This is a series of games that appeared on the market for a long time, gaining popularity and a large fan base (you may have heard of Heroes III or the Final Fantasy series, to name a few). For years there hasn’t been a really prominent brandname to bring this genre back to its heyday, so we decided to entrust passionate efforts to this genre with gameplay enhancements (real-time online PvP combining RPG elements with blockchain technology and NFT integration).

“Free to Play” mode will also be applicable in this non-NFT version. We call the non-NFT mode “pure skill” PvP because all items’ stats as well as the level of heroes won’t be counted, winners in the non-NFT mode solely showcase their skills, just like in current popular online games such as League of Legends, DotA 2, and so forth. With a diverse skill system, players can form their squad with specialized skill sets that serve the tactics to win.

5. Summary

So far, Faraland is focused on developing our game in the right direction with updates in accordance with the mindset of real blockchain game projects. With a sustainable economy and a long-term development plan, we are confident that we will be able to perfect the product and bring Faraland to a wide range of players across the globe in years to come.
